This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.
• Administration and upkeep of a virtualized testing environment (Hyper-V) that serves as the technical backbone for essential infrastructure projects in energy systems (HVDC, FACTS), which includes:
• Installing, configuring, and maintaining virtual machines, operating systems, and applications within the testing environment.
• Setting up and configuring both physical and virtual network devices, including switches, routers, and firewalls.
• Monitoring system and network performance to identify potential issues and proactively making adjustments.
• Managing the complete lifecycle of virtualization and network components in accordance with cybersecurity protocols and essential patching activities.
• Overseeing and managing backup and recovery processes for the testing environment.
• Diagnosing and resolving issues within the Hyper-V environment and associated network infrastructure.
• Administering and maintaining security applications within the testing environment, such as endpoint protection, vulnerability scanning tools, and access control systems.
• Providing technical support and creating documentation for Hyper-V processes, network configurations, and security protocols.
• Keeping track of technological advancements and trends in IT and OT security; continuously enhancing knowledge pertinent to energy system testing environments.
• Developing and maintaining disaster recovery plans and procedures for major outages impacting the testing infrastructure.
• Identifying, evaluating, and addressing security issues as they emerge; implementing and refining system hardening measures throughout the environment.
• Expertise in Hyper-V (alternative: VMware ESXi).
• Proficient in Windows Administration.
• Experience in scripting and coding for Hyper-V automation.
• Advanced knowledge of security, particularly in relation to system hardening.
• Familiarity with network devices (switches, routers, firewalls).
• Basic understanding of database management would be advantageous.
• Advanced Python skills for automating security testing would be a plus.
• A structured and meticulous approach to work is essential.
• MSc degree in computer science or electrical engineering, ideally with a specialization in IT, security, automation, or software development, or equivalent education and professional training with additional qualifications.
• Proven practical experience in IT or system administration (mandatory Windows experience; Linux experience is a strong advantage; macOS experience is a plus).
• Strong understanding of virtualization technologies, focusing on Hyper-V and/or VMware ESXi.
• Solid experience with both physical and virtual network infrastructure, including configuration and administration of switches, routers, and firewalls.
• Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Scripting experience with common languages such as Bash and Python; familiarity with PowerShell for Windows/Hyper-V automation is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and goal-oriented, with a clear ambition to become a recognized technical expert in the field.
• Proficient in both spoken and written English; German language skills are a plus.
