📋 Description

• We are currently accepting applications for the 2026–2027 academic year.

• The School Counselor will provide virtual assistance to students and parents/learning coaches regarding course selection and scheduling, serving as the primary contact for student concerns across various subject areas and non-academic matters, from our Columbus office or remotely from anywhere else in Ohio.

• This role requires the School Counselor to become knowledgeable about course and credit requirements, collaborating with the Manager of Counseling Services to develop counseling processes for middle and high school students.

• Provide guidance to students and families on academic matters, career planning, and graduation requirements;

• Stay informed about all high school graduation criteria, including special requirements like community service, and relay this information to the High School Coordinator and principal;

• Assist students and parents in navigating the secondary school course selection process according to state credit and graduation mandates, as well as individual student interests and needs.

• A critical component of this role is helping students and parents create a Four Year Plan to fulfill graduation requirements;

• Counsel students facing challenges with course withdrawals and schedule changes, seeking necessary support while ensuring adherence to the school’s policies on course selection and withdrawals;

• Review student transcripts and ensure the accurate entry of credits into the online transcript system;

• Follow protocols to maintain the accuracy and currency of Connections Academy transcripts;

• Collaborate with administrative staff to obtain school records from students' previous institutions (when applicable) and ensure the timely transfer of student records;

• Develop programs for students and families addressing interpersonal adjustment challenges;

• Work with school teams to identify and assist families in accessing school and community resources;

• Contribute to the creation of crisis prevention and management strategies for the school and serve as an essential member of the Student Support Team (SST);

• Coordinate with a team of middle and high school educators to identify students who are deemed 'at risk' or 'in crisis'; Maintain regular communication as the primary contact for these students and their families;

• Oversee and manage the Personal Learning Plan (PLP) for each student;

• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of records for Connections Academy students;

• Assist families during the school withdrawal process, aiding in data collection related to withdrawals;

• Report and refer critical incidents that may compromise student safety as required by law, administrative policies, or ethical standards, while remaining informed about all state regulations concerning incident reporting and documentation;

• Support teachers with the integration of mid-semester enrollees, ensuring they receive guidance on incorporating these students into their coursework, while addressing previous grades, credits, and evaluations appropriately;

• Communicate with the Curriculum Team to guarantee that curriculum offerings align with state regulations;

• Implement specialized programs such as Advanced Placement support, SAT and ACT preparation, and college entrance guidance;

• Understand and assist the principal in facilitating all high school testing, including exit exams, PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP exams;

• Aid students in researching and comprehending their post-secondary career and educational options;

• Support students in preparing applications for college and employment;

• Educate students and parents about college admission standards and financial aid opportunities;

• Foster professional development initiatives for teachers and school personnel;

• Assume teaching and grading responsibilities as needed, including instructing middle school elective courses;

• Organize high school graduation ceremonies; and

• Perform other duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• Valid Ohio Counselor certification

• Master's degree

• Proficient technology skills, particularly with Microsoft Office products

• Exceptional communication abilities, both verbal and written

• A customer-oriented mindset

• Strong attention to detail and organizational capabilities

• High level of adaptability

• Team-oriented individual with proven leadership skills

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

• Willingness to travel occasionally for marketing and state testing events (may involve some overnight travel)
