SCA Foreign Language Translator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Overseeing, translating, transcribing, interpreting, conducting quality control, and validating services

• Delivering dependable and precise transcriptions, translations, or interpretations and/or summaries of source materials or intercepts into English

• Capable of undertaking multi-functional roles; for instance, when not engaged in intercepting, the linguist will transcribe or translate source materials/documents and/or carry out quality control functions on documents/materials completed by other linguists

• Attend government-sponsored training related to the operation and enhancement of specific equipment and software used by our client, at the client's expense

• Execute administrative tasks associated with duties as required

• Participate in minimization briefings organized by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and our client

• Comprehend and adhere to Court regulations concerning minimization procedures

• Provide testimony in court as a “Fact Witness” if required by our client and the U.S. District Attorney’s office, affirming the accuracy and validity of the linguist's completed work

• Create transcriptions of various source exhibits including, but not limited to, video and audio recorded conversations, documents, as well as written materials such as legal documents, diaries, computerized files, personal papers, maps, charts, ledgers, emails, and communications on social media (WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger)

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Law Enforcement Sensitive clearance, determined by a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)

• High School diploma or equivalent training and education

• A minimum of four (4) years of combined work and educational experience in translating, interpreting, or related work that requires proficiency in English and another language at a native or near-native level

• Applicants must either undergo or provide evidence of having successfully completed a language proficiency test meeting the minimum standards required in the contract, achieving a rating of 3 or above in speaking, listening, reading, and writing

• Exceptional command of the English language with the ability to deliver clear and concise oral and written communication

• Skills to listen to and comprehend a foreign language at a native or near-native level, accurately following the fundamental elements of conversation, whether written or verbal

• Skills to read and understand a foreign language at a native or near-native level, interpreting various types of texts

• Ability to understand slang and colloquial expressions in a foreign language and translate them into their English equivalents

• A sufficiently extensive vocabulary in English that obviates the need for paraphrasing or explanation

• Capability to perform well under pressure to meet specific deadlines

• A minimum typing/word processing speed of 40 wpm

• The Government may waive the basic typing skill proficiency level under exceptional circumstances

• Ability to comprehend the specific tasks being processed and produced

• Ability to effectively understand face-to-face speech with a sufficiently broad vocabulary that eliminates the necessity for paraphrasing or explanations.
