This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Macedonia.
• Assist in the execution of research and fieldwork initiatives in North Macedonia and Albania.
• Produce high-quality empirical data regarding Shared Holy Places (SHPs), enhancing the comprehension of their social, cultural, religious, and political contexts.
• Perform mapping, conduct site visits, engage in qualitative research, collaborate with stakeholders, and prepare analytical reports to ensure coherence with the project’s comparative and interdisciplinary framework.
• At least 2 years of academic and applied research experience in religious studies, anthropology, cultural heritage, or related fields.
• Enrollment in, or completion of, a PhD program in Social Sciences, Religious Studies, or a closely related discipline, focusing on research pertinent to religion, politics, cultural heritage, or conflict-sensitive environments.
• Proven expertise in qualitative research methodologies, including ethnographic fieldwork, interviews, oral history gathering, and narrative analysis, alongside experience in mapping and documenting cultural and religious sites.
• Established experience in academic research projects and research institutions, including involvement in funded research initiatives and collaboration with university-based research teams.
• Substantial experience in conducting fieldwork in culturally and religiously diverse and sensitive settings, including direct interactions with communities in the Balkans and surrounding areas.
• Proficient in data collection, documentation, and analysis, including contributing to research outputs such as academic publications, reports, and conference presentations.
• Background in stakeholder engagement and community interaction, particularly with vulnerable groups, minority communities, and in intercultural environments.
• Familiarity with digital tools and best practices in cultural heritage documentation, including experience in projects that involve mapping, digital humanities, or cultural informatics.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and research-related digital tools for documentation, analysis, and reporting.
• Demonstrated insight into religious dynamics, interfaith relations, and socio-political contexts in Southeast Europe and the Balkans.
• Strong analytical and research capabilities, with the ability to conduct independent research and contribute to interdisciplinary projects.
• Experience in organizing and facilitating academic discussions, workshops, or teaching activities, including engagement with students and research participants.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory; knowledge of Greek and other regional languages is advantageous.
• Previous experience in academic, research, or culturally-oriented programs is preferred.
