This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Utilize Canvas's SDK, AI-assisted development tools (including Claude Code), and other contemporary tools to develop and deliver plugins directly. While prototypes serve as a means for feedback, true success is measured by production-ready solutions.
• Facilitate rapid iteration cycles: quickly present real functionality to customers, learn from actual usage, and make continuous improvements.
• Take ownership of the entire process from discovery to deployed plugin — you will be the link between customer insights and delivered capabilities.
• Ensure a high volume of operational solutions; influence at Canvas is gained through demonstrated impact on outcomes rather than ownership of the roadmap.
• Create plugins that address issues for a broad customer base, considering widely applicable patterns and reusable components.
• Comprehend how individual plugins interact, how multi-plugin solutions and agent-based workflows integrate into a larger system, and design accordingly.
• Uphold governance standards for the development, deployment, versioning, and coordination of plugins, particularly as agent-driven functionalities increase in complexity.
• Collaborate closely with Platform Engineering to identify limitations in the Canvas platform that restrict plugin capabilities and convert field observations into actionable platform requirements.
• Lead initiatives to break down monolithic Canvas features into distinct, composable plugins offering greater flexibility and configurability than what currently exists within the core product.
• Prioritize platform investments by discerning which capabilities would provide the most leverage across the customer base.
• Adopt a first-principles perspective regarding the future of Canvas's extensibility layer, envisioning its evolution over the next 1, 2, and 5 years.
• Partner with Support, Implementation, Sales, and Customer Experience to identify customer challenges, requests, and prevalent patterns across accounts.
• Convert these insights into a prioritized understanding of the plugin ecosystem's needs, balancing immediate wins with foundational capabilities.
• Share initial builds and prototypes with customer-facing teams to validate direction before committing to refinements.
• Serve as the crucial link between customer experiences in the field and the broader plugin catalog development.
• Formulate a perspective on the future direction of the Canvas plugin ecosystem: identifying missing capabilities, underserved interactions, and new workflows made possible by the right building blocks.
• Contribute to Canvas's public-facing developer experience: creating documentation, guides/examples, and patterns that support customers and partners in building effectively on Canvas.
• Collaborate with product leadership to synchronize the plugin roadmap with Canvas's long-term platform strategy.
• Proven experience in product management, solutions engineering, or a hybrid technical role — with a history of delivering solutions, not just designing or coordinating them.
• Demonstrated ability to independently use modern AI-assisted development tools (such as Claude Code, Replit, Cursor, or similar) to create functional software.
• Capability to address complex challenges and navigate ambiguity. When others are uncertain about where or how to begin, you leverage your first principles thinking skills to make progress.
• A systems thinker in two dimensions: you grasp how components interact technically (composability, dependencies, governance) and how they connect experientially (consistency, coherence, overall feel). You can manage both perspectives simultaneously and balance any existing tensions.
• Strong product and design sensibility: you possess good taste. You recognize the distinction between a technically sound solution and a truly exceptional one, remaining vigilant to how a growing plugin ecosystem can drift into an incoherent experience without oversight.
• Rapid iteration mindset: you believe the fastest learning occurs through building real solutions and presenting them to users, with a default approach of shipping while keeping scalability in mind.
• Comfort in operating across both technical and non-technical audiences. You can draft a plugin specification for a coding agent, explain it to a clinician, and collaborate on the architecture with an engineer.
• Naturally collaborative: you understand that building the right solutions necessitates listening to Support, Implementation, Sales, and Customer Experience, rather than forming opinions in isolation.
• Preferred background in healthcare technology, with an understanding of clinical workflows and the operational realities of care delivery.
• Nice to Haves: Practical experience with Python or comparable languages.
• Familiarity with FHIR or clinical data standards.
• Experience developing on top of EMR or health technology platforms.
• Background in designing agent-based or multi-step automation workflows.
• Competitive Salary & Equity Package
• Health Insurance
• Home Office Stipend
• 401k
• Paid Maternity/Paternity Leave (12 weeks)
• Flexible/unlimited PTO
