Product and Regional Risk Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Execute and uphold risk assessments and RCSAs across Kraken's core and emerging product lines, pinpointing key risk exposures and suggesting suitable controls and mitigants.

• Conduct risk assessments for Kraken's regional entities, collaborating with regional and global stakeholders to comprehend the regulatory, operational, and market risk landscape.

• Contribute to the formulation and continuous enhancement of Kraken's enterprise risk taxonomy, risk appetite framework, and key risk indicator (KRI) reporting.

• Manage and supervise the risk management framework for regulated entities, which includes setting risk appetite, defining risk taxonomy, and establishing governance structures. Lead the identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of all significant risk types, including operational, regulatory, liquidity, safeguarding, outsourcing, ICT, and conduct risks. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks, such as MiCAR, E-Money Regulations, and DORA.

• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to integrate risk considerations early in the product development lifecycle, offering insights on the risk implications of new features, products, and initiatives.

• Facilitate the proactive identification and escalation of emerging risks, ensuring prompt visibility for senior management and pertinent governance bodies.

• Utilize GRC tooling and data analytics to enhance risk monitoring, reporting, and the automation of risk program activities at scale.

• Track the risk environment for developments—including MiCAR and broader digital asset regulatory obligations—that may impact Kraken's product or regional risk profile.

• Act as the main point of contact for risk-related interactions with the Central Bank of Ireland and other relevant regulators. Lead the creation and presentation of risk reports to the Board and its committees, as well as support regulatory submissions, reviews, and inspections as needed.

• Prepare clear and concise risk reports for senior leadership, risk committees, and relevant governance bodies that effectively outline the main drivers of Kraken's risk landscape.

• Work independently across a wide range of risk activities, contributing significant value while maintaining a collaborative working style with PCFs and senior management.

• Promote a culture of risk awareness throughout the organization by working with cross-functional partners and aiding in risk training and educational initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of demonstrable experience in enterprise risk management or a related field, preferably within a financial services, fintech, or cryptocurrency organization, or a leading consulting or audit firm.

• Robust understanding of risk frameworks and risk assessment methodologies, with the capability to apply them effectively in a dynamic environment.

• Proven expertise in conducting risk assessments and RCSAs, with the competence to translate complex risk findings into clear, actionable recommendations.

• Strong familiarity with digital asset markets and MiCAR regulatory requirements.

• Systems thinker with a history of utilizing technology, automation, and data-driven methodologies to develop scalable, operationally effective risk programs.

• Excellent analytical abilities, with the skill to synthesize data from various sources and extract meaningful risk insights.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing polished deliverables and presenting findings to senior stakeholders and governance bodies.

• Proven capability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver value across a wide array of risk activities in a high-growth, fully remote setting.

• Experience in cross-functional collaboration with Product, Engineering, Compliance, Legal, and Finance teams.
