This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• The Principal Machine Learning Engineer is tasked with creating machine learning models tailored to various business needs, establishing pipelines, and aiding in the delivery of meaningful experiences for our partners. This position collaborates with cross-functional teams to aid in the creation of state-of-the-art ML solutions.
• Develops and optimizes machine learning models.
• Conducts research, analyzes data, and documents findings.
• Assists in providing production-grade machine learning services that drive the ConnectWise platform and its products.
• Designs and oversees the maintenance of machine learning infrastructure.
• Guides and supports product decisions and launches while influencing outcomes.
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure the establishment of appropriate data pipelines that guarantee access to high-quality data.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is required; a Master’s or PhD is preferred.
• Over 8 years of relevant experience.
• Proficient in coding (e.g., Python) and deploying machine learning models into production.
• Experience in software development on cloud computing platforms.
• Familiarity with deploying, monitoring, and refining machine learning models in operational settings.
• Capable of independently managing projects and processes with minimal oversight.
• Extensive theoretical knowledge of the ML/AI domain and application development utilizing generative AI, including supervised fine-tuning, preference optimization (DPO), and reinforcement fine-tuning (RFT) of LLMs; as well as parameter-efficient fine-tuning (LoRA/QLoRA); fine-tuning encoder models like BERT/ModernBERT for text classification; and retrieval-augmented generation using embedding retrievers and cross-encoder rerankers.
• Strong understanding of model evaluation methodologies (task-specific eval sets, LLM-as-judge, offline metrics, and online A/B testing) along with experience in constructing training-data, synthetic-data, and distillation pipelines for post-training.
• Ability to adapt situationally and comprehend new technologies/processes according to business partner needs.
• Strong programming capabilities in Python along with proficiency in commonly used libraries (Hugging Face Transformers, TRL, PEFT, Sentence-Transformers, scikit-learn, etc.).
• Proficient in SQL and/or other data manipulation languages.
• Familiarity with big data processing tools such as Apache Spark.
• Competent in version control systems like Git.
• Knowledge of at least one cloud platform (e.g., AWS) and its relevant services (e.g., EMR, S3, and SageMaker).
• Ability to interpret business requirements and convert them into ML outputs.
• Capable of simplifying and conveying complex, highly technical concepts to audiences with varying levels of technical understanding.
