This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Idaho, +1 more state.
• Oversee the mitigation of cultural resources in accordance with the Historic Properties Treatment Plan and specific site plans.
• Make timely decisions and communicate changes related to site-specific plans.
• Direct safety initiatives and adhere to ERM’s stringent safety protocols.
• Identify, document, and assess archaeological materials, features, and isolated finds.
• Conduct preliminary in-field evaluations of NRHP eligibility.
• Execute unanticipated discovery procedures as outlined by project permits.
• Collaborate in real-time with project managers and cultural resource leaders.
• Ensure compliance with cultural resource permit stipulations and environmental obligations.
• Supervise daily field documentation, photographic records, and GPS data collection.
• Gather data for future reports, BLM summary updates, and updates to field forms.
• Ensure quality control over data and methodologies collected by the crew.
• Assist in the preparation of documentation and technical memoranda.
• Relay findings, compliance issues, and project status updates to project managers and senior archaeologists.
• Facilitate coordination with Native American tribal monitors when relevant.
• Lead teams composed of ERM personnel, project term-hire staff, subconsultants, and coordinators.
• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field is preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience as a Principal Investigator in Great Basin archaeological fieldwork.
• Must hold a permit as a Nevada BLM Principal Investigator for prehistoric and historic resources statewide.
• Experience in mitigation efforts for infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of Section 106, NHPA, and permitting requirements from BLM, Nevada, and Idaho agencies.
• Ability to recognize prehistoric and historic archaeological materials and features.
• Proficient in using GPS units, Survey123, ArcGIS, or similar field data collection tools.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
• Capability to operate safely in active construction sites and outdoor field conditions.
• A Master’s degree is mandatory.
• Must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards (36 CFR Part 61) in Archaeology.
• Experience working in remote locations for extended durations.
• Proven ability to support projects that require prolonged field engagement.
• Familiarity with working alongside Native American tribal monitors.
• Must be eligible for permitting as a PI for Idaho BLM.
• OSHA 10- or 30-hour construction safety training is required.
• Wilderness and Remote First Aid Training is necessary.
• Physical ability to perform necessary field duties safely.
