Principal DevOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take ownership and enhance our AWS cloud infrastructure utilizing Terraform.

• Design, implement, and consistently refine CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.

• Advocate for infrastructure security by proactively identifying and rectifying cloud misconfigurations.

• Lead the improvement of SRE practices: define SLOs and develop alerting and observability solutions.

• Engage in on-call rotations and manage production incidents from start to finish.

• Oversee build and release environments for development teams.

• Assess and integrate emerging DevOps technologies through structured proof-of-concept evaluations.

• Ensure documentation, runbooks, and architecture diagrams are up-to-date and actionable.

• Offer technical leadership, mentorship, and strategic direction to the engineering team.

• Collaborate with executive leadership to convey platform strategy, risks, and investment considerations.

⛳️ Requirements

• 10+ years of practical experience in DevOps or SRE, with a minimum of 5 years managing production workloads in AWS at scale.

• BA/BS in Engineering or Computer Science preferred; equivalent experience demonstrated through a successful track record is acceptable.

• The ideal candidate will possess one or more AWS Professional-level certifications (Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Professional, or similar).

• Extensive expertise in Terraform.

• Strong experience with GitHub Actions for building pipelines as code.

• Jenkins experience is a plus.

• Demonstrable depth in cloud security.

• Proficient in scripting and automation using Python, Go, or Bash.

• Solid background in Linux system administration and container management (Docker).

• Proven experience in SRE practices.

• Familiarity with cross-platform code compilation (Windows and macOS).

• Active, daily engagement with AI coding assistants is expected.

• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

• Demonstrated capability to operate at a principal or staff engineer level.

• Proven track record of providing technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams.
