Principal Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and Develop: Architect and sustain the company's fundamental data infrastructure, encompassing pipelines, warehousing, ingestion, transformation, and orchestration systems.

• Own the Data Platform: Assume full responsibility for the scalability, reliability, and security of the data platform, ensuring that high-quality data is readily accessible throughout the organization.

• Set the Standard: Create and manage data engineering best practices, including data modeling, pipeline design, and observability patterns that the wider team can utilize.

• Advocate for Data Quality: Propel data quality and observability initiatives across the platform, ensuring that stakeholders can depend on the data they utilize.

• Collaborate Across Functions: Work closely with engineering, product, and analytics teams to comprehend data requirements and translate them into tangible technical solutions.

• Lead and Mentor: Guide engineers in data engineering principles and methodologies, and actively contribute to recruitment and team development.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of data engineering experience, including considerable time in senior, staff, or principal-level positions.

• Extensive expertise in data pipeline design and distributed data systems, with a proven history of managing complex production data infrastructure.

• Demonstrated experience with data modeling, ingestion, transformation, and orchestration at scale within a SaaS environment.

• Strong SQL proficiency and familiarity with modern data warehousing technologies.

• Experience in establishing data quality and observability frameworks across an entire organization.

• Experience in setting technical direction at the organizational level, not limited to a single team.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey intricate data architecture decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

• Prior experience in startup or mission-critical environments is highly preferred.

• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud data infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Databricks) at scale is an advantage.
