This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead, mentor, and cultivate the Cloud Engineering and DevOps teams by setting technical direction, establishing engineering standards and runbooks, conducting performance evaluations and career development discussions, and recruiting and onboarding new talent.
• Architect, develop, and manage MSD’s AWS environment across multiple accounts utilizing AWS Organizations, Control Tower, and a landing-zone reference architecture.
• Remain highly engaged in hands-on work: write and review production Terraform, create CI/CD pipelines, troubleshoot production incidents, enhance cluster and database performance, and contribute code that the team will support for years to come.
• Own and advance MSD’s Infrastructure-as-Code standards (preferably Terraform; CloudFormation and CDK as required).
• Manage and extend MSD’s container and compute platforms (Amazon ECS, EKS/Kubernetes, EC2, Lambda, and serverless services) along with the associated tooling.
• Design and manage MSD’s cloud networking infrastructure — VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, hybrid connectivity to on-premises and partner environments, Route 53, and edge services.
• Oversee the CI/CD platform and developer-platform tools that enhance delivery while ensuring mandatory quality, security, and validation protocols are met.
• Collaborate with Cybersecurity on cloud security engineering initiatives.
• Drive Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
• Collaborate on cloud-native solution design, application onboarding, and migration strategies.
• Support MSD’s regulated environment.
• Manage strategic vendor relationships and act as the senior technical representative in vendor architecture and capacity discussions.
• Develop and maintain the cloud platform roadmap; collaborate with IS/IT leadership on planning, budgeting, and investment decisions regarding capabilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• At least 10 years of progressive experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, or DevOps roles.
• A minimum of 7 years of hands-on AWS engineering experience with core services (EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, VPC, IAM, KMS, CloudFront, API Gateway, Route 53, CloudWatch, CloudTrail).
• At least 3 years of proven people-leadership experience: managing engineers (direct reports or formal tech leads), setting objectives, conducting performance assessments, and enhancing team capabilities.
• Strong, demonstrable Infrastructure-as-Code expertise with Terraform (preferred), CloudFormation, and/or AWS CDK at scale.
• Extensive experience in operating containerized workloads on Amazon ECS and/or Amazon EKS (Kubernetes).
• Experience working in regulated environments (FDA 21 CFR Part 11, GxP, ISO 13485, ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA, or similar).
• Experience in life sciences, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or other regulated sectors is highly preferred.
• AWS certifications are strongly preferred: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional and/or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional; Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) is a plus.
