This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nebraska.
• Assesses the current skill level of clients to pinpoint achievable goals and areas needing improvement to adapt to blindness.
• Informs clients and the community about the various implications of blindness and how these relate to prevailing attitudes toward the condition.
• Performs technology evaluations for clients and their employers.
• Provides suggestions for the acquisition of assistive technology.
• Delivers training in assistive technology to both clients and staff members.
• Develops and executes instructional programs to equip clients with essential skills for effectively managing blindness, including computer usage (email, internet, social media, screen readers, or low vision applications), cooking, homemaking skills, Braille, and cane travel.
• Compiles periodic reports to assess clients’ progress in achieving successful rehabilitation and to evaluate the overall effectiveness of the programs offered.
• Aids in training new staff members regarding the various philosophies of assisting individuals with blindness, the implications of blindness, and teaching daily living skills.
• Occasionally acts as a team leader for a group of Orientation Counselors.
• Connects clients with additional opportunities provided by the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired and other social service organizations.
• Performs other assigned duties within the scope of the classification.
• Bachelor's degree in social science, behavioral science, social work, counseling/guidance, vocational rehabilitation, psychology, sociology, human development, education, or a related field with two years of experience; OR a Master's degree in one of the aforementioned fields or a related area with one year of experience.
• Maintenance of the CVRCB Certification, once obtained on the job.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be taken into account.
• This role necessitates travel; therefore, the incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license or request driver accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
