This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.
• Execute coding for records related to inpatient, outpatient, and surgical procedures, ensuring a minimum accuracy rate of 95% and adherence to turnaround time requirements.
• Coders must possess the ability to code across various types of coding to provide assistance wherever necessary.
• Capability to read and interpret health record documentation to identify all diagnoses and procedures impacting the current outpatient encounter, ancillary services, inpatient professional fees, and surgical episodes.
• Utilize knowledge of current Diagnostic Coding and Reporting Guidelines pertaining to outpatient services.
• Implement knowledge of diagnostic, procedural, and coding guidelines specific to inpatient services.
• Apply understanding of Common Procedural Terminology (CPT) format, guidelines, and notes to accurately locate and correctly sequence codes for all services and procedures conducted during the encounter/visit.
• Recognize when it is necessary to use an unlisted procedure code within Common Procedural Terminology.
• Code in compliance with VHA Coding Guidelines.
• A CPC certification or an equivalent coding certification is mandatory.
• Experience in surgical coding is essential.
• Prior experience coding for government entities is required.
• Familiarity with CPT-4, ICD-9, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding is necessary.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team setting.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are important.
• Current coding certification with valid proof of credentials is required.
• Security clearance is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of VHA guidelines is a plus.
• At least two years of experience in medical coding, specifically within the surgery specialty, is required.
• Proficient in investigating patient accounts for accuracy and completeness.
• Demonstrated high-level problem-solving skills are necessary.
• Ability to work effectively with colleagues and management.
• Clinical knowledge acquired through education or experience is advantageous.
• Proficient keyboarding skills and basic computer literacy, including MS Word, are essential.
• Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of patient information in line with HIPAA guidelines is required.
• Familiarity with the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting is important.
• A high level of competence in coding ICD-10-CM/PCS with a strong emphasis on accuracy is expected.
• Experience with EHR, Nuance, EM, Cerner, and Vista is preferred.
