Managing Editor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Create daily email newsletters for local markets, expanding from one to 3–5 newsletters each day.

• Write and publish around 5–15 blog posts weekly across various markets.

• Select which stories to include in each newsletter using personal judgment rather than automated feeds.

• Utilize the AI writing system to draft, edit, and proofread stories in alignment with the company's style and tone.

• Provide feedback on edits to the AI tool to enhance its training and performance over time.

• Keep an eye on breaking local news and modify newsletters later in the day as new stories emerge.

• Collaborate with the social media team by sharing content strategies and guidelines.

• Ensure every weekday newsletter is accurate, thoroughly proofread, and ready for distribution by 6:00 a.m. US Eastern Time.

• Maintain high editorial standards to prevent factual inaccuracies and typographical errors.

• Generate content ideas and quickly adapt as newsletters are introduced in new cities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Exceptional English writing skills with a creative, witty, and casual tone.

• Practical experience utilizing AI/LLM tools for drafting, editing, or research purposes.

• Strong editorial judgment to spot factual inaccuracies, weak arguments, and tone inconsistencies.

• Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring no typos or factual mistakes.

• Ability to consistently meet a daily publishing deadline of 6:00 a.m. US Eastern Time.

• Persuasive copywriting skills are an added advantage.

• Marketing experience or the capability to identify monetizable content opportunities is a plus.

• A Master's degree in English or a similar qualification is a bonus.

• Journalism experience or a degree in the field is a bonus.

• Detail-oriented, creative, witty, proactive, and capable of generating content ideas.

• Ability to quickly adapt when launching newsletters in new and unfamiliar cities.

• Willingness to work remotely as an independent contractor.

• Availability for a full-time primary position without engaging in freelancing or secondary jobs.
