This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the transformation of The Mary Sue's coverage in entertainment, politics, and internet culture for a team of writers publishing at scale.

• Establish a multimedia journalism and reporting strategy, incorporating short-form video, and take ownership of the scaling process.

• Generate story ideation and sourcing workflows across platforms such as TikTok, Reddit, and various social media channels.

• Mentor writers to enhance their confidence in self-publishing and copyediting.

• Recruit additional writers as the team expands.

• Ensure adherence to publishing guidelines while ensuring coverage contributes ethically and accurately to ongoing discussions.

• Collaborate directly with syndication platforms including MSN, Newsbreak, and Yahoo.

• Strategically plan and assign coverage based on written content and article performance, with an increasing focus on social media.

• Uphold organic search and SEO best practices without allowing them to overshadow the publishing strategy.

• Manage the data and economics related to coverage, including expenditure, justification, and returns.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven editorial leadership experience, preferably in dynamic news, culture, or entertainment settings.

• Experience in overseeing, curating, and distributing editorial-first video content is highly advantageous.

• Familiarity with syndication on platforms like MSN, Yahoo, Newsbreak, Smart News, or similar is a significant plus.

• Strong and flexible people management and recruitment abilities.

• Experience in nurturing writers, rather than just editing their work.

• Proficiency in working with data and extracting traffic and revenue metrics from various sources.

• Understanding of costs, expenditures, and profit margins, beyond just pageviews.

• Intuitive understanding of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

• Alignment with The Mary Sue’s voice and legacy.

• Experience in travel or lifestyle/wellness content is a bonus.

• Familiarity with newsletter experience and strategy is beneficial, though not mandatory.
