This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain, +4 more countries.
• Oversees a team of Medical Writers, facilitating both short-term and long-term resource allocation to assign projects to the most suitable and available personnel.
• Conducts regular staff meetings and provides updates to senior management.
• Reviews and approves biweekly timesheets.
• Assists team members in forecasting costs related to projects and estimating completion timelines.
• Responsible for hiring and evaluating team members, as well as recommending salary adjustments and promotions.
• Supervises the creation of Medical Writing deliverables.
• Organizes workflows to ensure project completion within set timelines.
• Assesses the timeliness and quality of deliverables, providing updates to senior management.
• Serves as a resource for inquiries regarding study design, adverse event reporting, and statistical analyses.
• Aids writers in the presentation and interpretation of data.
• Conducts senior reviews to ensure compliance with departmental standards.
• Writes and evaluates group Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Writing Procedures Document (WPD), ensuring ongoing compliance with these documents.
• Remains informed about relevant publication guidelines and requirements (such as GPP, ICMJE, etc.).
• Delivers marketing presentations to prospective clients showcasing the capabilities of the Medical Writing department.
• Collaborates with Bids and Contracts and Business Development to prepare proposals for Medical Writing projects.
• Develops and maintains training initiatives for the Medical Writing team.
• Ensures that all writers receive appropriate training.
• Utilizes scientific expertise to aid in the written interpretation of scientific data and to guide others in presenting such data.
• A Bachelor’s degree in a science-related discipline is required; an advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, Masters) is preferred.
• Prior experience that equips the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the role (equivalent to 8+ years) or a comparable combination of education, training, and experience, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in medical publications writing, ideally within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, CRO, or medical communications sectors.
• Proven experience in managing scientific writing teams, overseeing publication deliverables, and supporting publication planning and execution is essential.
• At least 1 year of leadership experience is required.
• Capability to supervise, assess, and mentor departmental staff.
• Ability to oversee assignments, monitor staff workloads, and provide guidance for task completion.
• Extensive knowledge of departmental processes and the ability to contribute to their enhancement and development.
• Exceptional medical writing abilities, including strong grammatical, editorial, and proofreading skills, with the capacity to effectively interpret and present highly complex data.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills are necessary to represent the department in various contexts, including bid defenses, capability presentations, and audits.
