Manager, Machine Learning

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the model lifecycle: encompassing requirements gathering, experimentation, model development, evaluation, and model cards, while collaborating with ML engineers on deployment and production infrastructure.

• Convert business challenges into well-defined ML solutions: outlining what to model, establishing criteria for success, and identifying where ML provides advantages over simpler alternatives.

• Create and uphold feature engineering pipelines essential for model development.

• Lead experiment design and uphold statistical integrity: ensuring models are assessed with rigorous methodology both prior to and following deployment.

• Oversee model performance in production, monitoring quality over time, identifying data drift, and deciding when retraining is necessary.

• Foster a culture of continuous learning and collaboration within and between partner teams.

• Conduct design and code reviews to elevate the standard of technical excellence.

• Recruit, mentor, and guide data scientists.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of experience in building and deploying machine learning systems in production environments.

• At least 2 years of experience in mentoring and managing ML teams.

• Proficient in Python and SQL.

• Strong grasp of ML fundamentals: including model selection, evaluation methodologies, feature engineering, and common pitfalls.

• Practical experience with PyTorch, scikit-learn, and XGBoost (or similar gradient boosting frameworks).

• Exceptional people leadership capabilities, with a focus on developing ML talent.

• Excellent stakeholder management skills, demonstrated by a history of successful cross-functional collaboration to achieve results.
