Manager, Forward Deployed Machine Learning Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee and guide a team of Forward-Deployed Machine Learning Engineers (FDMLEs) in delivering AI and ML solutions for customers, from initial prototyping to production deployment and ongoing iteration.

• Foster team development through coaching, mentorship, and career advancement while cultivating a strong culture of ownership, customer orientation, and operational excellence.

• Propel execution in fast-paced, ambiguous environments by facilitating rapid experimentation, iterative development, and close collaboration across functions.

• Collaborate with Federato leadership in Forward Deployed Engineering, Data Science, and Customer Success to ensure alignment on priorities, delivery expectations, and customer results.

• Convert strategic AI initiatives into actionable plans, priorities, and delivery timelines, ensuring that projects are appropriately scoped, staffed, and executed.

• Establish and enhance agile workflows suited for forward-deployed AI and ML tasks, including sprint planning, technical design reviews, backlog management, retrospectives, and operational follow-up.

• Act as the main coordination point among internal teams and customer stakeholders to guarantee alignment, transparency, issue resolution, and successful adoption of deployed solutions.

• Promote operational excellence through effective communication, documentation, monitoring, and incident management practices across customer-facing ML systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in machine learning, applied AI, data science, or similar technical fields.

• At least 2 years of experience in leading or managing technical contributors and cross-functional delivery initiatives.

• Proven experience in deploying and managing ML or AI systems in production settings, including customer-facing or operational environments.

• Solid understanding of ML systems, LLM applications, agentic workflows, evaluation frameworks, and best practices for production monitoring.

• Experience in dynamic environments with changing requirements and multiple simultaneous workstreams.

• Exceptional communication, organizational, and stakeholder management abilities.

• Capacity to balance technical expertise with strong execution and delivery discipline.
