Manager, Engineering – Platform Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with engineering leadership to enhance and standardize the core architecture for a cloud-native, event-driven telecom platform — pinpointing areas for enhancement and facilitating safe, incremental modernization while development is ongoing.

• Take ownership of the developer experience: create tools, optimize CI pipeline performance, manage dependencies, and foster inner-source contribution models within a shared monorepo.

• Oversee the governance of shared UI component standards and design system practices implemented across various teams.

• Establish and uphold engineering standards: including RFCs, ADRs, and architecture reviews.

• Work closely with Operations and SRE to define observability standards (such as tracing, logging, metrics), SLO/SLI frameworks, and practices focused on reliability.

• Advocate for AI-first development methodologies in tooling, workflows, and workplace culture.

• Lead and nurture a small, established team of senior engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of backend engineering experience, demonstrating hands-on proficiency in Golang or similar programming languages.

• Extensive experience with event-driven and asynchronous architectures — including Kafka, NATS, or similar systems.

• A strong background in platform or infrastructure engineering: you have built shared internal platforms, rather than just product features.

• Proven experience in defining engineering standards at the organizational level — including RFCs, ADRs, or architecture review processes.

• A solid DevOps mindset: familiarity with CI/CD, containerization, Kubernetes, and cloud-native infrastructure.

• Experience in managing or mentoring engineers, with a focus on fostering growth through work.

• Ability to navigate and work effectively with ambiguity and incomplete requirements.
