📋 Description

• Oversee a team by recruiting and onboarding new talent, establishing clear expectations, conducting formal performance evaluations, and coaching accountability.

• Guide the team in executing the enterprise data platform roadmap by converting architectural directives into sequenced execution plans, team backlogs, and quantifiable outcomes.

• Foster a robust engineering culture within the team by defining standards for maintainability, organization, and repeatability; nurturing engineers through regular one-on-ones, timely feedback, development plans, and formal review cycles; and taking responsibility for overall team performance and cohesion.

• Manage daily operations for the Data Engineering team by breaking down work into tasks, facilitating sprint-level planning, delegating effectively to enhance ownership, removing obstacles to delivery, and ensuring high-quality outcomes through engineering reviews and feedback.

• Spearhead the implementation of the Medallion architecture (Bronze → Silver → Gold) with a strong emphasis on layer responsibilities, ensuring repeatable and auditable pipeline behavior utilizing Boomi, Dbt, Azure Data Bricks, Boomi/Rivery, Delta tables, and SQL Server.

• Collaborate closely with the Data Architect to bring the architecture to life through tangible implementation patterns, reference pipelines, and guardrails—ensuring the team can consistently execute the intended strategies.

• Minimize friction by facilitating clear decisions and progress—using lightweight decision records, seeking appropriate input, and executing accountability while avoiding cumbersome processes.

• Establish DataOps practices that align with the modern software development lifecycle (SDLC): CI/CD for data assets, consistent branching/release patterns, code review standards, and operational readiness for pipelines through runbooks.

• Enhance pipeline observability and operational reliability by implementing monitoring for freshness/staleness, failure modes, and quality signals, ensuring the team responds effectively to incidents and support requests.

• Cultivate stakeholder partnerships and streamline the intake process: work with business partners to clarify requirements, minimize ad-hoc disruptions, and translate requests into deliverable, well-scoped work that aligns with the platform strategy.

• Develop future leaders and succession plans for critical roles through regular delegation of responsibilities, mentoring, and strategic delegation.

• Uphold and promote the company values through positive interactions with both internal and external stakeholders consistently.

• Participate in other strategic business initiatives or special cross-functional projects as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant professional experience in software/data engineering, including the development of production data pipelines and data platforms.

• 2+ years of experience in a leadership capacity (formal or informal), including team management, task breakdown, performance reviews, delivery ownership, and cross-functional coordination.

• Experience in directly managing a team, including hiring/interviewing and conducting formal performance evaluations.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Databricks (Spark), Boomi/Rivery, and Delta Lake patterns for scalable lakehouse processing.

• Strong background in ETL/ELT design and implementation, covering orchestration/ingestion into transformation workflows across curated layers.

• Experience collaborating with application and database teams to define efficient, non-disruptive data access patterns for upstream SQL Server systems (read replicas, CDC, snapshot isolation, batching strategies).

• Proven expertise in implementing Medallion architecture with a clear separation of concerns across Bronze/Silver/Gold, including enforcing “no consumer reads from Bronze” style guardrails.

• Strong understanding of ingestion/source variability (APIs, CDC-enabled databases, file drops) and the ability to select suitable ingestion strategies based on source contracts.

• Demonstrated success in advancing team maturity from reactive delivery to repeatable engineering execution (standards, patterns, documentation, and predictable throughput).

• Interest and capability to mentor and/or train other team members as appropriate.

• Experience in cross-functional collaboration and fostering partnerships to drive results.

• Proven ability to communicate effectively with various audiences/levels, including leadership, through different mediums.

• Ability to present and convey information both formally and informally to all levels of the organization.
