This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.
• Take full ownership of data from its source to delivery. Design the ingestion process from source systems into BigQuery utilizing Airflow (Cloud Composer), Dataflow, and Python loaders; model it in dbt; and present the analysis in Hex. No handoffs, no "that's not my layer."
• Build for scalability. As we grow rapidly, the data will expand with us. Every pipeline and model you deploy should be capable of handling the increasing volume in the upcoming months. Reliability, cost, and partition strategy should be integral to the design process, not an afterthought.
• Analyze the driving factors behind the numbers. When a metric changes, you investigate the reasons. You can trace a figure from a Hex dashboard back through dbt models to the raw source and explain to the business what caused the fluctuation.
• Embrace an AI-first approach and own the outcomes. You leverage modern AI tools (coding agents, LLMs) to enhance efficiency throughout the stack while remaining accountable for what goes into production. You understand the distinction between allowing AI to draft and allowing it to decide, ensuring correctness, cost, and ownership remain in your control. This is highly valued by us.
• Collaborate directly with business teams. You proactively engage without waiting for tickets. You comprehend the inquiries from growth, finance, and product teams, anticipate their needs, and transform complex questions into trustworthy models and answers.
• Manage infrastructure through code. Provision and advance the data platform using Pulumi, treating the pipeline as a production system for which you are responsible.
• Stay updated on the latest trends. You actively monitor innovations in data engineering and AI, integrating valuable tools rather than waiting for others to introduce them.
• Possess 5+ years of experience in building and operating production data pipelines and warehouses.
• Have extensive knowledge of our stack or similar equivalents: GCP, BigQuery, dbt, Airflow, Dataflow, Metaplane, Hex, and infrastructure as code (Pulumi or Terraform).
• Write proficient SQL and are capable of both constructing the pipeline and interpreting the metrics. You are an engineer who can perform analysis, not just one or the other.
• Have already integrated AI into your daily workflow, with a clear understanding of when human intervention is necessary.
• Communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders and pursue their actual needs.
• Feel comfortable navigating ambiguity, acting swiftly, and designing for scalability from the outset.
• Exhibit a genuine passion for data, supported by a proven track record.
