Manager, Compliance – Dangerous Goods

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Act as the authority on lithium battery shipping regulations, including UN3480, UN3481, UN3090, and UN3091.

• Prepare and verify Dangerous Goods documentation, such as Shipper’s Declarations, IMO Dangerous Goods Declarations, and Bills of Lading.

• Track changes in global regulations related to IATA, IMDG, and DOT, and update internal Standard Work Instructions accordingly.

• Ensure adherence to IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, including State and Operator variations, State of Charge limits, and aircraft restrictions.

• Manage ocean shipments in compliance with IMDG Code requirements, including segregation, container marking, and placarding.

• Supervise domestic ground transport under 49 CFR / DOT regulations, covering Excepted and Fully Regulated shipments, as well as driver hazmat credentials.

• Design and uphold specialized lithium battery storage areas that meet fire codes and insurance standards.

• Implement segregation protocols for lithium-ion and lithium-metal cells.

• Set up areas for handling damaged, defective, or recalled batteries, along with thermal runaway emergency response protocols.

• Conduct audits of warehouse racking, labeling, and packaging integrity.

• Create and deliver Dangerous Goods awareness training for warehouse personnel.

• Inspect packing lines for adherence to correct UN-specification packaging and cushioning materials.

• Travel as required, approximately 25–30% of the time.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business, or a related discipline, or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in supply chain management focusing on dangerous goods materials.

• At least 5 years of experience in a logistics or warehouse setting with an emphasis on high-density lithium battery storage and distribution.

• Current IATA DGR Certification for the transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (Category 1 or 6).

• Valid IMDG Code Certification for the transport of Dangerous Goods by Sea.

• Strong knowledge of Title 49 CFR / DOT Hazmat requirements for domestic U.S. transportation.

• Familiarity with UN 38.3 Testing Summaries.

• Capability to interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

• Experience with lithium battery safety systems, including specialized fire suppression and thermal monitoring.

• Background in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) management.

• Proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) with Dangerous Goods integration.

• Proficiency in customs management software and the Microsoft Office Suite.

• Strong auditing practices and effective communication skills.

• Good numerical skills.

• Must wear composite-toed boots and hearing protection.

• Ability to travel by car or plane.

• Frequent use of a computer keyboard and viewing a computer monitor.
