Machine Learning Intern, Economics – Fall

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• You will assist in designing and constructing comprehensive machine learning solutions.

• You will collaborate within small, cross-functional product teams, presenting significant avenues for personal growth and project ownership.

• You will engage as an active participant in an internal community comprising economists, data scientists, operations research scientists, and machine learning engineers, exchanging insights, best practices, and research across various domains.

• You will create impactful solutions to support Instacart's ambitious growth objectives.

• You will closely partner with engineers, product managers, other teams, and both internal and external stakeholders, taking ownership of a substantial portion of the process from problem identification to solution recommendation and testing in controlled experiments.

• You will have the autonomy to propose and lead organization-wide initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Current or recently graduated PhD student in economics or a related field, focusing on data-intensive challenges.

• A combination of economic theory, applied econometrics, and business insight that enables you to thrive in a fast-paced environment and contribute effectively from the start.

• Proficiency in causal inference using both observational and experimental data.

• Proficient in Python or R with fluency in data manipulation (SQL, Pandas) and machine learning (scikit-learn, XGBoost, Keras/Tensorflow) tools.

• Self-driven with a strong sense of accountability.
