This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Design and refine underwriting prediction models for both tabular and sequential datasets.
• Construct and enhance feature pipelines and training datasets utilizing both proprietary and third-party signals.
• Prototype modeling concepts and features, conduct offline experiments, and transition effective strategies into production while implementing risk controls.
• Deploy models within batch and/or real-time decision-making systems.
• Enhance model reliability, reduce latency, and bolster operational robustness.
• Monitor and assess the health of models and data.
• Assist in defining workflows for retraining and backtesting.
• Collaborate with teams across Engineering, Risk Analytics, Product, and the ML Platform.
• Establish requirements, assess tradeoffs, and convey findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a machine learning engineer or a PhD in a relevant discipline.
• Proficient in Python with experience in production-level coding.
• Skilled in building and assessing classification models.
• Familiarity with gradient-boosted decision trees such as LightGBM, XGBoost, CatBoost, or similar.
• Experience with a deep learning framework; PyTorch is preferred.
• Knowledge of distributed data processing or parallel computing frameworks; Spark is preferred, along with Ray/Dask or similar.
• Experience with machine learning lifecycle tools for training orchestration, experimentation, and model monitoring, such as Kubeflow, Airflow, or MLflow.
• Proficient in using AI-powered developer tools like Claude Code or Cursor.
• Capability to translate business scenarios into solutions that span multiple software components.
• Strong coding practices that are clear, well-tested, and extensible.
• Ability to navigate large codebases, debug others’ code, and offer feedback during code reviews.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
