Machine Learning Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Austria.

📋 Description

• Lead the design and development of computer vision systems focused on biometrics, including face attributes, detection, quality, and recognition.

• Conduct thorough fairness analysis and benchmarking of biometric models utilizing various datasets and operating conditions.

• Architect, train, and optimize models using frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and/or JAX.

• Take ownership of and enhance end-to-end ML pipelines, from data ingestion to deployment. Design automated pipelines (Airflow) for data ingestion and cleansing, ensuring the curation of balanced training sets and generating synthetic data to bridge quality and diversity gaps.

• Manage production engineering tasks, ensuring a smooth transition to production. Optimize models for low-latency inference through techniques such as quantization, distillation, and using TensorRT/ONNX, while overseeing deployment on AWS.

• Mentor ML engineers, perform code/design reviews, and promote technical best practices throughout the Computer Vision team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience: A minimum of 5 years of industry experience in Machine Learning, with at least 3 years specifically focused on Biometrics or Face Analysis.

• Deep understanding of computer vision and biometrics, particularly in the area of face recognition.

• Fairness & Ethics: Familiarity with the sources of algorithmic bias in Computer Vision and practical experience in measuring and mitigating disparate impacts.

• Strong Engineering: Proficient in Python, including machine learning and vision libraries such as Pillow, OpenCV, and PyTorch, with a commitment to writing clean, modular, production-ready code.

• Systems Architecture: Experience in designing comprehensive ML pipelines (from Data to Training to Deployment) and proficiency with workflow orchestrators like Airflow.

• Cloud Native: Practical experience in scaling training jobs across multi-GPU clusters and deploying services on AWS (including SageMaker, EC2, EKS).
