This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Assist with the breach-of-warranty (Lemon Law) legal proceedings in California.
• Function as GM’s technical expert and PMK/PMQ in ongoing California breach-of-warranty cases.
• Oversee the technical inspection and expert-testimony processes.
• Collaborate with local counsel and GM Legal to assess cases, prepare testimony, and align strategies.
• Analyze cases based on technical merit.
• Conduct vehicle inspections and review repair histories along with supporting documentation.
• Aid in discovery and filing tasks, including declarations and reviews of TSBs, field actions, and engineering documents.
• Prepare for and engage in depositions, arbitrations, and trials.
• Serve as GM’s corporate representative when appointed by counsel.
• Ensure adherence to litigation holds, information lifecycle management, and data privacy regulations.
• Enhance case-evaluation criteria, documentation standards, and practices related to testimony preparation.
• Create and maintain playbooks, job aids, and training resources.
• Provide training and support to Service Zone and Field Engineering teams.
• Participate in California Lemon Law seminars and industry/legal educational training.
• Contribute to favorable case outcomes through prompt evaluations, precise inspections, and credible testimonies.
• Meet service-level expectations for case reviews, documentation, and inspection turnaround times.
• Report to the Regional Litigation Manager and collaborate with GM Legal and external legal counsel.
• At least 5+ years of experience as a dealership or OEM automotive technician; GM experience is highly preferred.
• Willingness to travel up to 75% within California for vehicle inspections, court appearances, and counsel meetings.
• In-depth knowledge of OEM service policies, warranty administration processes, and California Lemon Law legislation.
• Experience in reviewing and interpreting repair order histories, technical service bulletins, field actions, and internal engineering documents.
• Comfort level in testifying during depositions, arbitrations, and trials while serving as a PMK/PMQ or corporate representative.
• Strong oral and written communication abilities.
• Analytical skills to address complex technical and documentation challenges within a legal framework.
• Excellent interpersonal, planning, organizational, and computer skills.
• Proficient in common office software and documentation tools.
• ASE Master Certification required.
• OEM Automotive Certification is necessary.
• A bachelor’s degree in business, automotive technology, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience as an OEM Field Service Engineer is a plus.
• Background in serving as a corporate representative for Lemon Law or breach-of-warranty matters is preferred.
• Experience supporting in-house legal teams or outside counsel in automotive litigation is advantageous.
• Must live within 100 miles of the Western Regional Office located in Westlake Village, California.
• Must be legally authorized to work without GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future.
• Capability to legally operate a motor vehicle and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review.
• Willingness to relocate to an approved city within the assigned territory if not already residing there.
