Lead Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and scale backend services and RESTful APIs utilizing FastAPI (Python) and Spring Boot (Java).

• Architect and implement AI agents, including prompt engineering, evaluation, and continuous improvement workflows.

• Construct event-driven systems and well-defined internal APIs to facilitate reliable, real-time communication across services.

• Lead technical architecture decisions in close partnership with engineering and product leadership.

• Influence product metrics and measurable business outcomes.

• Oversee the complete delivery of projects, encompassing design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support.

• Manage and enhance CI/CD pipelines to support safe and rapid feature releases.

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize system performance to accommodate high throughput and rapid growth.

• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, DevOps, and AI/ML teams to ensure technical execution aligns with Copilot product objectives, while effectively communicating trade-offs and progress to stakeholders.

• Mentor and guide engineers within the Copilot team to maintain high standards of technical excellence.

• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following engineering best practices.

• Assume additional responsibilities as necessary.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field (Master’s preferred).

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience (backend or full-stack).

• Strong expertise in Python and/or Java, with hands-on experience developing microservices using FastAPI and/or Spring Boot.

• Profound understanding of API design (REST), authentication/authorization (OAuth2, JWT), and data modeling.

• Experience in designing event-driven systems and distributed architectures.

• Practical experience with AI systems, including prompt engineering or AI service integration.

• Proven leadership experience through previous projects or roles.

• Strong debugging and performance optimization skills in production environments.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines is a plus.

• Previous experience with AI-native products or internal developer platforms is a plus.

• Experience in fast-paced, high-growth startup environments.
