This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Lead a team of software engineers in developing scalable services, APIs, and SDKs that support our digital merchandising platform.
• Collaborate with other technical leads across functions to create shared prioritization frameworks and ensure that project delivery aligns with roadmap objectives.
• Drive architectural and design choices for the ads platform, establishing technical direction and fostering consensus within the team alongside staff engineers.
• Partner with Product Managers to enhance Jane’s advertising product offerings, making them sound, robust, and user-friendly.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers to gather and analyze data, utilizing it to refine advertising through iterative improvements.
• Take ownership of and advance engineering standards for the team, including code quality, review culture, and technical processes.
• Participate in and conduct design and code reviews.
• Identify and alleviate performance bottlenecks through effective delegation.
• Manage and develop a team of 3-4 engineers through regular one-on-ones, goal-setting, and performance assessments.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership on recruitment: assist in defining roles, evaluating candidates, and assessing technical competencies.
• Recognize gaps in team capabilities or processes and propose actionable improvements without waiting for direction.
• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience within a product-focused team.
• 2+ years in a leadership or people-management role, demonstrating a successful track record of delivering significant work through a team, rather than solely as an individual contributor.
• Exhibits lead-level ownership: adeptly navigates ambiguity with the team and leadership, proactively advancing work in alignment with business objectives.
• Experience with AdTech systems, preferably in retail media, sponsored listings, or marketplace advertising. Hands-on experience with ad serving, real-time decisioning, campaign pacing and budgeting, or attribution and measurement is ideal. Understands the unique constraints of AdTech, including low-latency decision-making at scale and accurate pacing and billing.
• Systems-level problem solver: comfortable addressing complex, ambiguous challenges across distributed systems and infrastructure.
• Strong foundation in Computer Science principles, including data structures, algorithms, and code design principles.
• Proficiency in at least one systems programming language (Go preferred, Java, etc.) with the ability to quickly learn new languages and adapt to a fast-changing technology stack.
• Database literacy: knowledgeable in relational, columnar, and document-based databases, with a clear understanding of their strengths and ideal use cases.
• Excellent technical communication skills: articulates ideas clearly through well-structured code, written documentation, and communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Naturally collaborative: eager to mentor and share knowledge while also being open to learning from others, with a genuine passion for the craft of software development.
• Experience in proposing, provisioning, and testing infrastructure using cloud operations tools: Terraform (preferred), CloudFormation, etc.
