This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.
• Develop and implement intricate protection solutions for generation, transmission, and distribution systems tailored for electrical utilities and industrial clients.
• Engage in the design and creation of microgrid solutions, focusing on power flow optimization and dispatching algorithms.
• Conduct engineering studies and analyses, including short circuit analysis, load flow studies, ground grid design, lightning protection assessments, insulation coordination, arc-flash evaluations, and protective device coordination.
• Generate relay setting files, encompassing the programming of Protection and Control Elements, Control Logic, and Communication settings for GE and third-party protective relays.
• Evaluate customized Protection and Control solutions through testing in-house as well as at customer installations.
• Demonstrate the capability to model and perform power system simulations utilizing the RTDS simulator or a comparable tool.
• Develop factory acceptance test plans and provide testing services to confirm protection designs during customer witnessing.
• Plan site acceptance tests and offer field support throughout the commissioning of new applications.
• Contribute to the development of software tools aimed at streamlining the engineering process, both internally and in collaboration with key utility partners.
• Participate in project meetings alongside project managers and customers to engage in technical discussions.
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a specialization in power systems.
• Over 7 years of experience in the design, study, and analysis of electric power systems.
• Strong knowledge of power system steady-state and transient analysis, fault studies, and protection theory.
• Familiarity with symmetrical components.
• Practical experience with study software and power system tools such as Mathcad, MATLAB, ASPEN, CAPE, SKM, CDEGS, WinIGS, or Etap.
• Proficient understanding of substation communication protocols including IEC 61850, DNP, and Modbus.
• Knowledge or hands-on experience with system commissioning and testing, including the use of Doble / Omicron test equipment or similar tools.
• Technical proficiency to execute projects, identify opportunities, and prepare Statements of Work (SOW) proposals.
