This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more state.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of game engineers, focusing on goal setting, one-on-one meetings, feedback, and supporting career advancement.
• Strategize, recruit, and conduct interviews for technical positions within the Gameplay Engineering team.
• Oversee team processes, including planning, code review standards, on-call/bug triage, as well as work scoping and estimation.
• Foster a healthy, high-trust engineering culture.
• Review pull requests and assist engineers with challenging technical issues.
• Troubleshoot and resolve intricate cross-system problems related to multiplayer synchronization, performance, and stability.
• Develop prototypes or construct gameplay systems directly as necessary.
• Collaborate with game design, art, and production teams to define features and ensure alignment of engineering with the creative vision.
• Work alongside the Technical Director to establish a pragmatic technical roadmap.
• Communicate engineering progress, risks, and trade-offs to studio leadership.
• Report directly to the Technical Director while leading the Gameplay Engineering team.
• Coordinate with the Backend Lead, Technical Director, Production, Design, Art, QA, and the wider engineering organization.
• Over 6 years of professional game development experience, with shipped title(s) developed in Unreal Engine.
• More than 2 years of experience in managing or leading engineers directly.
• Proficient in C++ with extensive knowledge of Blueprint workflows.
• Practical experience with online multiplayer systems, including replication, client-server architecture, and netcode.
• Demonstrated experience in addressing multiplayer performance issues and debugging challenges.
• Strong grasp of software architecture and design patterns, with discernment on their application.
• Background in cross-functional collaboration with design, art, and production in a real production setting.
• Comfortable taking high ownership in a lean team and adapting to multiple roles.
• Excellent communication skills for articulating technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and motivating a team.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada.
• Candidates must be willing to operate within North American time zones (EST–PST).
• Capability to engage in extended computer-based work, inclusive of prolonged use of monitors, keyboards, mice, and game controllers, for at least six hours per day.
• Nice to have: experience in shipping a live-service or online multiplayer game post-launch.
