Lead Engineer – Thermal Mechanical

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Accountable for conducting thermal-mechanical design analyses of fuel rods to ensure their mechanical integrity is upheld throughout the entire design lifespan.

• Engaged in coupled heat transfer and finite element mechanical analyses pertaining to fuel rod pellets and cladding.

• Collaborate with experts in fuel mechanical design, material sciences, and nuclear/thermal-hydraulic analysis engineering.

• Define thermal mechanical operating limits for both new and existing fuel product lines.

• Assist in the assessment of fuel behavior during generic and plant-specific transient analyses.

• Provide support to fuel operations and resolve customer concerns related to fuel pellets and cladding.

• Analyze operational and test data to facilitate enhancements in modeling and methodologies.

• Maintain and advance the fuel performance code.

• Deliver well-structured and clearly documented engineering analyses to ensure design adequacy.

• Present findings to both internal and external customers, as well as nuclear regulators, regarding fuel performance.

• Support the team’s technical leader and functional manager in planning, tracking, and executing projects.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited institution is required.

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in a technology or engineering-related role.

• At least 2 years of experience focusing on thermal-mechanical or nuclear fuel analysis.

• A Master’s Degree or higher in an engineering discipline from an accredited institution is preferred.

• Prior knowledge or experience in the nuclear industry is preferred.

• Previous experience in drafting submittals to the NRC is preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to solve problems and perform complex engineering analyses that result in comprehensive documentation is preferred.

• Familiarity with Python and FORTRAN is preferred.
