Lead Engineer – Thermal Mechanical

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Responsible for conducting thermal-mechanical design analyses of fuel rods to ensure mechanical integrity is upheld throughout the design lifespan.

• Performing coupled heat transfer and finite element mechanical analyses related to fuel rod pellets and cladding.

• Collaborating with experts in fuel mechanical design, material science, and nuclear/thermal-hydraulic analysis.

• Establishing thermal mechanical operating limits for both new and existing fuel product lines.

• Evaluating fuel behavior during generic and plant-specific transient analyses.

• Supporting fuel operations and resolving customer issues associated with fuel pellets and cladding.

• Interpreting operational and test data to drive enhancements in modeling and methodologies.

• Maintaining and advancing the fuel performance code.

• Delivering well-organized and documented engineering analyses to ensure design adequacy.

• Developing and maintaining technical design procedures related to fuel rod design and analysis activities.

• Providing support in addressing the needs and trends of the nuclear industry.

• Presenting findings to both internal and external customers, as well as nuclear regulators, concerning fuel performance.

• Assisting the team technical leader and functional manager in planning, tracking, and executing projects.

• Carrying out work with a high standard of quality in compliance with NRC regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited institution.

• At least 4 years of experience in a technology or engineering role.

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in thermal-mechanical or nuclear fuel analysis.

• A Master’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university (preferred).

• Prior knowledge or experience in the nuclear industry (preferred).

• Experience with writing submissions to the NRC (preferred).

• A proven track record of problem-solving skills and the ability to conduct complex engineering analyses resulting in thorough documentation (preferred).

• Familiarity with Python and FORTRAN (preferred).
