Lead DevOps Engineer – Late Shift, 2 PM - 10 PM

Posted Jun 29

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Lead the standardization of infrastructure and operational excellence by creating and implementing scalable automation frameworks in Python that facilitate consistent and repeatable deployments across both cloud and on-premises environments.

• Speed up infrastructure provisioning by developing and refining Terraform code-generation platforms utilizing Python and Jinja2, allowing teams to generate validated, environment-specific infrastructure code from reusable templates.

• Enhance system reliability and compliance through the development and maintenance of Puppet modules, manifests, and Hiera configurations that manage Linux and Windows environments at scale.

• Boost operational efficiency across Windows platforms by crafting robust PowerShell automation solutions for server management, Active Directory administration, and hybrid cloud integrations.

• Streamline complex infrastructure workflows by creating internal automation tools, command-line utilities, and APIs that empower engineering teams to self-manage common operational tasks.

• Improve the speed and safety of infrastructure delivery by integrating automation frameworks with CI/CD pipelines, facilitating automated validation, testing, and deployment of infrastructure modifications.

• Enhance software quality and minimize deployment risks by establishing comprehensive testing strategies for infrastructure code, inclusive of unit testing, linting, and integration testing.

• Collaborate closely with cloud, platform, and application teams to identify manual processes, reduce operational toil, and promote automation-first solutions throughout the organization.

• Foster long-term scalability and maintainability by producing clear documentation, standards, and runbooks for automation frameworks and infrastructure templates.

• Contribute to a robust engineering culture by engaging in code reviews, sharing best practices, and continuously enhancing the quality, security, and maintainability of automation solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in Python development — not mere scripting, but structured, testable application code.

• Strong grasp of Python packaging, virtual environments, dependency management (pip, Poetry), and code quality tools (pylint, black, mypy).

• Experience in building CLI tools and automation frameworks using Python (Click, Typer, or similar).

• Practical experience with Jinja2 templating — creating reusable, parameterized templates for configuration and infrastructure code generation.

• Experience with pytest for the unit and integration testing of automation code.

• Strong proficiency in Terraform: module design, state management, remote backends, workspaces, and dependency graphs.

• Demonstrated experience in programmatically generating Terraform HCL using Python and Jinja2 — building template-driven pipelines that yield valid, linted, plan-ready infrastructure code.

• Familiarity with Terraform tools: tflint, tfsec, terraform-docs, Terragrunt, or Atlantis.

• Hands-on experience with Puppet: writing manifests and modules, Hiera data hierarchies, node classification, and r10k / Code Manager workflows.

• Experience managing mixed Linux and Windows environments with Puppet at scale.

• Proficient in PowerShell scripting for Windows Server administration, task automation, and hybrid cloud integrations (AWS Tools for PowerShell, Azure PowerShell).

• Experience automating Active Directory, Group Policy, or Windows networking tasks via PowerShell.

• Solid AWS experience: EC2, EKS/ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch — with an understanding of services as automation targets.

• Familiarity with CI/CD platforms and integrating infrastructure code pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI).
