Lead Data Scientist, Robotics

📋 Description

• Predictive maintenance and hardware reliability: Develop models that forecast MTBF and remaining useful life for particular components (actuators, cameras, compute, power systems). Collaborate with hardware engineering to model wear-and-tear under various duty cycles, payloads, and environmental conditions, converting those models into maintenance schedules and design feedback.

• Fleet performance and RaaS unit economics: Examine telemetry and logs to identify which software versions, site conditions, or usage patterns are linked to the highest failure and intervention rates. Partner with Product to establish the "golden signals" of a RaaS deployment and create the corresponding dashboards. Measure the cost of human intervention (teleop, on-site support, manual recovery) and its contributing factors.

• Root-cause and anomaly detection tooling: Develop detection and root cause analysis tooling that highlights anomalies in fleet behavior early, assisting engineers in moving from symptom to cause more swiftly.

• Manufacturing quality and feedback loops: Integrate end-of-line test data with field performance to determine which manufacturing signals can predict early field failures, and provide feedback to the factory to identify defects before shipment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience applying data science and statistical modeling to real-world challenges, with a proven ability to manage ambiguous, high-impact issues from start to finish.

• Extensive expertise in areas such as reliability/survival analysis, time-series and anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, and causal/observational inference.

• Strong software fundamentals, including production-quality Python skills, and proficiency in SQL and modern data stacks.

• At least 3 years serving as a technical lead or the most senior individual contributor on cross-functional projects, demonstrating a history of setting technical direction for a team of data scientists/analysts, mentoring and developing individual contributors, and achieving alignment among engineering and business stakeholders without formal authority.

• Proficiency in collaborating cross-functionally with hardware, embedded/software, manufacturing, and business/finance stakeholders, and effectively translating analysis into trusted decisions.

• Experience handling large-scale, complex, multi-modal operational data (sensor/telemetry, logs, event streams) and the discernment to understand when data supports or undermines a conclusion.
