Lead Data Engineer – Migration & Integration

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Oversee the technical implementation of the transition from Oracle and Boomi to Azure SQL and Azure Data Factory.

• Direct architectural and design choices related to database migration, ETL migration, integration, validation, and deployment processes.

• Act as the primary technical liaison with the client.

• Convert client requirements, priorities, and limitations into actionable technical guidelines for the team.

• Manage the efforts of the database migration and ETL / ADF engineers.

• Evaluate and validate technical designs, source-to-target mappings, migration strategies, and implementation plans.

• Offer hands-on technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance as necessary.

• Assist in resolving intricate issues pertaining to data conversion, pipeline design, performance, compatibility, validation, and reconciliation.

• Monitor project timelines, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and unresolved decisions.

• Ensure the team is synchronized on priorities, scope, quality expectations, and delivery commitments.

• Relay project status, risks, obstacles, and critical decisions to client stakeholders and internal management.

• Aid in planning for testing, production cutover, rollback considerations, and post-migration stabilization.

• Guarantee that technical documentation is generated and preserved throughout the engagement.

• Advocate for best practices regarding data migration, ETL design, security, performance, monitoring, and maintainability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience leading data migration, ETL, or data platform modernization initiatives.

• Comprehensive understanding of relational databases, data modeling, SQL development, and data validation.

• Familiarity with Oracle, SQL Server, and/or Azure SQL.

• Experience with ETL / integration platforms such as Boomi, Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Informatica, Talend, MuleSoft, or similar tools.

• Capability to guide technical architecture and design choices across database and integration workstreams.

• In-depth knowledge of source-to-target mapping, data profiling, migration planning, reconciliation, and cutover processes.

• Ability to provide technical assistance to engineers and help resolve design, development, performance, and data quality challenges.

• Experience in managing project timelines, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and technical decisions.

• Strong communication skills for client interactions.

• Ability to collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, developers, QA resources, and project leadership.

• Excellent documentation skills, including recording technical decisions, risks, action items, and status updates.
