Internal AI Product Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design and implementation of AI-driven internal tools and systems that empower refurbed to function as an AI-native organization as part of our AI & Tech Transformation initiative.

• Serve as a product-focused senior back-end engineer for internal AI initiatives, identifying opportunities, architecting solutions, and developing the back-end services and integrations that incorporate AI and automation into employee workflows.

• Collaborate closely with the Head of Internal Technology & AI on strategic planning and execution, while providing technical guidance to teams and coordinating with core platform Engineering for support.

• Evaluate success in this position through enhancements in productivity, the introduction of new capabilities, and the adoption of AI tools and innovative work methodologies throughout the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience as a senior/staff back-end engineer with practical knowledge of developing production systems in Go, Python, or similar; adept at designing for scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency on GCP.

• Proven experience in building AI/LLM-powered systems in a production environment - from initial prototyping with model APIs to deployment, monitoring, and iteration.

• Strong product instincts in the traditional PM sense - has managed a product area from start to finish, including discovery, PRDs, roadmap, success metrics, and tangible outcomes; not merely 'utilized AI tools as a back-end engineer.'

• Experience in stakeholder management with senior leaders and departmental teams; capable of aligning individuals around trade-offs and facilitating cross-functional delivery.

• Comfortable balancing individual contributor engineering tasks with technical leadership: establishing direction, reviewing designs, and mentoring others while maintaining hands-on expertise.

• Extensive practical knowledge of modern AI tools and active involvement with the rapidly evolving ecosystem - has significant experience with various coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), understands how to structure, develop, and implement skills/plugins/marketplaces, can design and integrate MCPs, and works fluently with subagents and agent harnesses; capable of making informed build vs. buy decisions.
