This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Conduct inspections in the field for both residential and commercial construction to ensure adherence to the North Carolina State Building Code, approved plans, and local jurisdiction requirements.
• Evaluate installed work against approved plans, specifications, manufacturer guidelines, and relevant code requirements.
• Examine foundations, framing, structural elements, fire-resistance features, egress routes, accessibility components, weatherproofing, and other designated building elements.
• Enforce occupancy, floor-area, and story limitations associated with the certified Building Inspector Level.
• Generate electronic inspection reports in Permit Hub, detailing results, code references, notes, and photographs.
• Detect unsafe conditions and code violations, and effectively communicate necessary corrections.
• Oversee scheduling, site access, reinspections, and completion activities.
• Assist in fulfilling jurisdiction-specific registration and approval requirements.
• Maintain inspection documentation, credentials, training records, and jurisdiction registrations.
• Adhere to quality-control, safety, confidentiality, and escalation protocols.
• Engage in ongoing education and training related to code updates.
• Possession of a current North Carolina COQB Building Inspector certificate at Level I, II, or III, or eligibility for a probationary certificate through an approved jurisdictional arrangement.
• High school diploma or an equivalent recognized qualification.
• Successful completion of the COQB Law and Administration course along with the appropriate Building Standard Inspection course and examination, unless a valid exemption is applicable.
• Relevant education and experience that meet the 11 NCAC 08 .0706 standards for the certification level held or being pursued.
• Practical understanding of building construction techniques, approved plans, inspection methodologies, and the North Carolina State Building Code.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout the assigned service area in North Carolina.
• Proficient in using a smartphone, tablet, Permit Hub, email, and electronic documentation systems.
• Strong judgment, attention to detail, time management, and effective professional communication skills.
• Capability to pass necessary background checks and meet municipality registration standards.
• Regular access to active construction sites and ability to work indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions.
• Ability to traverse uneven surfaces; ascend stairs and ladders; bend, kneel, crouch, and enter confined or elevated spaces as necessary and safe.
• Competence in reading plans and using inspection tools, as well as carrying standard field equipment.
