This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Plan, direct, and coordinate the operations of the managed Health Information Management (HIM) functional unit.
• Supervise and manage staff effectively.
• Communicate and collaborate with the HIM Department and Digital Health Technology Services (DHTS).
• Organize daily workflow and assign work tasks.
• Monitor assignments to ensure adequate daily coverage.
• Collaborate with hospital and clinic personnel to address issues and ensure the integrity of electronic health records.
• Review daily work queues, identify priorities, resolve issues related to target achievement, and adjust assignments as needed.
• Apply applicable state and federal laws as well as regulatory requirements to the work unit.
• Ensure quality standards, timeliness, and customer satisfaction metrics are achieved.
• Recruit, select, orient, and train new staff in collaboration with the HIM System Manager.
• Identify professional development needs, initiate ongoing training, and monitor progress.
• Oversee staff productivity and uphold quality expectations.
• Recommend performance standards and conduct annual performance reviews with the HIM System Manager.
• Serve as a technical expert for staff inquiries, problems, and challenging customer situations.
• Recommend departmental policies and procedures, including the documentation and testing of database logic requirements.
• Provide timely verbal and written responses to both internal and external customers.
• Develop operating goals and objectives; recommend, implement, and administer operating protocols and procedures.
• Engage in employee engagement initiatives based on work culture scores and action plans.
• Perform other related duties as necessary.
• A high school diploma is required.
• A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in a progressive healthcare setting is required; an associate's degree in healthcare or business may substitute for two years, while a bachelor's degree may substitute for four years.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
• Experience in data entry is necessary.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required.
• Familiarity with standard medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology is expected.
• Critical thinking skills and the ability to collect and analyze complex problems are necessary.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and multitask effectively is required.
• A strong customer service background and the ability to perform under pressure and time constraints are essential.
• Ability to create and implement departmental policies, rules, and regulations for verifying patient information, collecting payments, and maintaining records and forms is necessary.
• Knowledge and application of situational leadership skills are expected.
• Ability to lead teams and maintain effective relationships with personnel is essential.
• Understanding of general accounting principles is required.
• Knowledge of Health Information Systems (HIS) and Epic Electronic Health Records (EHR) is strongly preferred.
• Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) is strongly preferred.
