Head of Finance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Gibraltar, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the general ledger and the insurance balance sheet in NetSuite, managing premiums, claims, commissions, reinsurance recoveries, and profit-sharing arrangements.

• Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes and generate management accounts for insurance carriers.

• Prepare annual statutory financial statements in accordance with UK GAAP (FRS 102) and the Gibraltar Companies Act.

• Assist with GFSC regulatory returns and Solvency II reporting, including QRTs, SFCR, and ORSA inputs.

• Reconcile the balance sheet, bank, fiduciary, and intercompany accounts with actuarial reserves.

• Collaborate with Actuarial, underwriting, and pricing teams on reserves, loss ratios, combined ratios, and product profitability.

• Develop, implement, and uphold financial controls and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

• Manage external audits and serve as the main point of contact for auditors and the GFSC.

• Ensure timely corporate tax submissions and regulatory financial filings.

• Oversee, mentor, and develop one finance team member.

• Supervise cash flow, liquidity, rolling forecasts, and investment income accounting.

• Maintain and manage the ZIL finance systems stack and ensure data integrity.

⛳️ Requirements

• Fully qualified accountant: ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or an equivalent qualification.

• Demonstrated experience in insurance carrier balance-sheet accounting; experience limited to broker or agency contexts is not sufficient.

• Proven ability to work closely with actuaries and a conceptual understanding of reserving, pricing, and capital modeling.

• Familiarity with Solvency II reporting, including QRT, SFCR, and ORSA.

• Experience in preparing statutory accounts.

• Skilled in building, testing, and enforcing internal financial controls.

• Experience in managing and developing direct reports in a lean environment.

• Experience in managing external audits from start to finish.

• Willingness and capability to hold a GFSC-approved regulated-person position for ZIL.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment while maintaining quality and accuracy.

• An AI-first mindset with curiosity and a readiness to utilize AI daily and adapt quickly.

• Regulatory experience in Gibraltar or a similar small jurisdiction is a plus.

• Experience in Big 4 insurance audits is an advantage.

• Practical experience with NetSuite in an insurance or MGA setting is a bonus.
