Graphic Design and Layout Services

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver graphic design and layout services for literacy and numeracy manuals as well as other print and digital materials.

• Tailor and modify existing manual templates to suit new country and language contexts.

• Design and typeset manual interiors utilizing Adobe InDesign or a comparable professional platform.

• Create and enhance cover designs based on client input and selection.

• Adjust TaRL Africa branding and design guidelines to fit country-specific content and needs.

• Generate print-ready PDF/X files along with other formats specified by printers.

• Create digital versions as required.

• Produce illustrations, icons, and graphic elements.

• Integrate feedback from TaRL Africa and government or education-sector partners through established revision rounds.

• Implement accessible and inclusive design principles, including suitable color contrast, typography, font sizing, and legibility.

• Develop or modify illustration styles that are age-appropriate and culturally relevant.

• Ensure designs comply with Ministry of Education or government textbook and instructional material standards.

• Modify designs to accommodate low-cost printing needs, including black-and-white and two-color production.

• Prepare and deliver agreed-upon editable and final production files.

• Provide support for assignments on an as-needed basis after pre-qualification.

⛳️ Requirements

• Legally established and operating in their country of residence, or demonstrate a strong local or regional presence and comprehension of the relevant education and printing context.

• Minimum of three years’ professional experience in graphic design, publication design, print production, or layout.

• Expertise in Adobe InDesign or a similar professional layout application.

• Experience in preparing professional, print-ready files.

• A portfolio showcasing at least two examples of books, manuals, educational materials, or other multi-page publications.

• Ability to adhere to agreed timelines, including expedited ones when necessary.

• Experience or ability in multilingual typesetting, including diacritics and non-Latin scripts as needed.

• Capability to comply with applicable government, education-sector, and printing specifications.

• Assurance that fonts, illustrations, images, icons, and other third-party assets used in commissioned work are legally licensed for intended use.

• Disclosure of any actual or potential conflicts of interest that could affect service delivery.

• Submission of a concise Expression of Interest or cover letter not exceeding three pages.

• Submission of a company or individual profile, portfolio, indicative rate card or pricing structure, two professional references, software and tools description, deliverable file formats, indicative production capacity, and confirmation of multilingual typesetting capability.

• Applicants may need to complete a brief sample design or layout exercise.

• Adherence to relevant safeguarding, ethical conduct, and accountability requirements.

• Maintenance of confidentiality, with a possible requirement to sign a confidentiality agreement.

• Compliance with appropriate, respectful, and responsible representation standards when images involving children are used.

• Providers may be invited to bid for assignments based on their suitability, availability, approach, and pricing.
