This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Annually compose and revise over 150 direct mail and email communications in partnership with the Communications’ content strategy team.
• Create and manage acknowledgment templates, donor stewardship messages, website donation pages, and welcome series emails.
• Convert ALDF’s legal and programmatic initiatives into captivating, narrative-driven content for print and digital email/SMS platforms.
• Establish a storytelling-centric voice across advocacy, fundraising, educational/informational, and stewardship communications.
• Produce tailored content for various supporter categories, including sustainers, planned givers, mid-level contributors, and major donors.
• Review and edit mass communications from the Development team for precision, quality, and consistency with brand voice.
• Utilize audience segmentation, A/B testing, and performance metrics to assess and enhance communication effectiveness.
• Create focused donor stewardship messages that express appreciation and highlight donor impact.
• Work together with the Foundation Relations Manager to develop donor collateral and materials for high-level outreach.
• Seek out and engage in professional development opportunities related to fundraising and marketing communications.
• A bachelor's degree in English, writing, communications, journalism, or a similar field is preferred.
• Alternatively, a minimum of 5 additional years of fundraising experience may be considered in place of a degree.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in writing and editing.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience writing fundraising and advocacy communications for a nonprofit organization.
• Proven experience in crafting large-scale annual direct mail and digital campaigns.
• Preference given to candidates with backgrounds in animal welfare or legal organizations.
• Strong project management capabilities, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work autonomously.
• Experience in creating tailored content for various donor demographics.
• Familiarity with CRM systems, eCRMs, and email marketing tools.
• Capability to collaborate across teams while effectively managing a significant amount of independent work.
• A demonstrated interest in and experience with animal welfare issues and a commitment to the mission of the Animal Legal Defense Fund.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for staff meetings and retreats, estimated at 1–3 trips per year.
• Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the necessary employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
• Starting annual salary of $95,100 for most geographic locations.
• Starting pay of $100,105 for candidates residing within 25 miles of Washington D.C., Cotati, CA, and Los Angeles.
• Starting pay of $105,110 for candidates located within 25 miles of New York City and San Francisco.
