Freelance Ticker Copy Editor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Gather news, verify facts, craft headlines, and edit content while adhering to tight deadlines.

• Keep track of the sports schedule and live events to deliver up-to-date news, scores, and pertinent information on the Ticker.

• Ensure that Ticker content is thoroughly researched, logically organized, grammatically accurate, and aligns with editorial standards.

• Assess headlines and text prior to publication for any potential legal concerns, including libel and copyright infringement.

• Compose and set alerts for breaking news, changes in network programming, and major sports developments.

• Oversee and schedule promotional graphics for the Ticker at specified intervals throughout the day and week.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of editorial experience, ideally within online or television environments.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with strong organizational abilities.

• Knowledge of Content Management Systems (CMS) and online publishing platforms.

• Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Strong critical thinking, news judgment, decision-making, planning, attention to detail, and a sense of urgency.

• Skilled in utilizing social media, the internet, and internal resources such as the AP sports wire for news gathering and research.

• Demonstrated knowledge of sports, with a comprehensive understanding beyond the four major professional sports leagues.

• Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

• Preference for candidates residing in the greater Los Angeles area, although remote applicants will also be considered.

• A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field is preferred, but not mandatory.
