This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oklahoma.
• Identifies the origin and cause of fires and explosions related to structures, equipment, vehicles, heavy machinery, agricultural equipment, and other incidents.
• Aids in securing the fire/explosion site to avoid the removal or damage of potential evidence.
• Performs on-site, hands-on forensic fire analysis, which encompasses scene photography, interviewing witnesses, gathering information, taking possession of items, determining cause and origin, report preparation, and providing testimony in depositions and trials.
• Searches for, identifies, collects, and labels any potential evidence/items from the fire scene, including devices used to ignite or enhance the progress of the fire; ensures the integrity of the chain of custody for potential evidence/items.
• Offers technical and scientific assistance to clients for subrogation and litigation purposes.
• Conducts research on code compliance, including electrical, gas, fire, building, and installation code violations.
• Facilitates and assists in presenting continuing education seminars on fire-related subjects.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
• Requires a high level of analytical skills, with a focus on detail and the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Must be capable of interacting and communicating with clients at all levels (e.g., internal and external).
• Should possess knowledge of various computer software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and computer-assisted engineering and design software.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical reports, journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
• Capable of writing clearly and coherently, including scopes of work, budget estimates, schedules, reports of findings, proposals, general correspondence, and other technical documents.
• Must be able to respond to inquiries from both internal and external clients.
• Adept at effectively presenting information to top management, clients, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
• IAAI-CFI certification is preferred.
• A minimum of NAFI-CFEI, with the capability to obtain IAAI-CFI within 18 months.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in fire investigation or a related field.
• An AAS degree in Fire Science, Fire Investigation, Forensic Science, or comparable experience as a fire investigator, firefighter, or law enforcement officer/investigator.
