This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Conduct cost estimates for high voltage (HV) and medium voltage (MV) electrical power systems, encompassing substations and transmission/distribution networks, primarily for EPC/turnkey/design-build projects.
• Collaborate with preconstruction, engineering, procurement, project management, and field services teams.
• Create cost estimates and project budgets for substation and transmission line initiatives.
• Assess client RFP documents, preliminary design drawings, and project materials to define scope, schedule, and design parameters.
• Generate internal labor estimates and detailed material takeoffs.
• Prepare equipment and subcontractor bid packages and requests for pricing.
• Address vendor and subcontractor RFIs.
• Analyze and level vendor and subcontractor proposals.
• Support project proposals, client bid assessments, cost reviews, and RFI replies.
• Assist in contract formulation and ensure alignment of contract scope and pricing with the estimate.
• Aid in project kickoff and transition to the execution team.
• Compile and maintain historical bid and project execution cost records for future estimates.
• Present cost estimates to departmental and company leadership.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in cost estimation for transmission-level substations and transmission lines ranging from 13.8kV to 500kV.
• Practical understanding of Engineering/Procurement/Construction (EPC) projects.
• Experience with EPC substation and transmission projects.
• Familiarity with internal engineering, equipment and material, construction labor and materials, testing and commissioning, overhead and general conditions, project management, administrative, and project support costs.
• Knowledge of relevant standards including NEC, NFPA, NESC, OSHA, NERC, RUS, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, as well as local and federal building regulations.
• Experience in reviewing preliminary electrical drawings and calculations for substations and transmission lines.
• Capability to conceptualize project requirements from RFPs with limited or no detailed information or drawings.
• Ability to perform tasks independently and collaborate effectively within a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in research, alternative evaluation, recommendations, and presentations.
• Effective problem-solving abilities in time-sensitive scenarios.
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Project and AutoCAD 2015 or newer.
• Intermediate skills in Bid2Win or similar estimating software.
• Capability to lift/move equipment weighing up to 15 lbs.
• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related Engineering Technologies is preferred (not mandatory).
• Typically requires 10% travel.
