This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Conduct cost assessments for HV and MV electrical power systems, encompassing substations and transmission/distribution systems, primarily within EPC/turnkey/design-build projects.
• Grasp project requirements and limitations across various sectors, including engineering-only, EPC, utility, renewable energy, industrial, and commercial projects.
• Collaborate with preconstruction, engineering, procurement, project management, and field services teams.
• Create cost estimates and project budgets for substation and transmission line initiatives.
• Analyze client RFP documents, initial design drawings, and project materials to define scope, schedule, and design specifications.
• Formulate estimates for internal labor, equipment, materials, construction labor, testing and commissioning, overhead, general conditions, project management, and administrative support.
• Generate detailed material takeoffs and equipment/subcontractor bid packages.
• Address vendor and subcontractor RFIs.
• Assess and standardize vendor and subcontractor bids.
• Support project proposals, client bid assessments, cost reviews, and RFI replies.
• Aid in contract formulation and ensure that the scope and pricing of awarded projects align with estimates.
• Assist with the project kickoff and transition to the project execution team.
• Gather and monitor historical bids and project execution costs for upcoming bids.
• Present cost estimates to departmental and company leadership.
• Practical understanding of Engineering/Procurement/Construction projects.
• Over 3 years of experience in estimating transmission-level substations and transmission lines ranging from 13.8kV to 500kV.
• Experience with EPC substation/transmission projects and estimating costs related to engineering, equipment, materials, construction, testing and commissioning, overhead, general conditions, project management, administrative, and support.
• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, NESC, OSHA, NERC, RUS, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, as well as local and federal building codes and standards.
• Knowledge in reviewing preliminary electrical drawings and calculations for substations and transmission lines.
• Capability to conceptualize project requirements from RFPs with minimal or no detailed information or drawings.
• Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Skills in research, engineering/design issue evaluation, alternative analysis, recommendations, and presentations.
• Proficient problem-solving skills in time-sensitive scenarios.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Outlook.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Project.
• Basic proficiency in AutoCAD 2015 or later.
• Intermediate proficiency in Bid2Win or similar estimating software.
• Willingness to travel typically up to 10% of the time.
• Capability to lift or move equipment weighing up to 15 lbs.
• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related Engineering Technologies is preferred.
