This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the complete lifecycle of Code for America's AI Acceptable Use Policy: developing foundational policy from scratch, promoting it throughout the organization, ensuring adoption, and continuously updating it as tools, risks, and best practices evolve.
• Provide guidance on the employee-related implications of AI tool implementation, encompassing acceptable use boundaries, monitoring practices, and policy provisions that relate to employment law and workforce relations — collaborating closely with People Operations and Legal.
• Compose governance frameworks and policy documents in clear, plain-language formats — ensuring that staff at every level and across all disciplines can comprehend and act on the guidance, not just compliance and IT teams.
• Serve as an internal consultant for teams in the initial phases of exploring, piloting, or refining AI-assisted workflows — promoting experimentation with a "yes, and here’s how to do it safely" mindset.
• Document and disseminate learnings from team-level pilots to enhance organizational knowledge and highlight replicable patterns.
• Act as a liaison between IT/security and non-technical program and operations teams, translating contexts and representing staff needs during governance or tooling decisions.
• Collaborate with People Operations and Legal on the continuous development and review of AI-related employment policies, including those governing employee conduct, monitoring, and AI tool utilization in the workplace — ensuring governance frameworks are informed by and aligned with employee relations considerations.
• Lead change management efforts for AI-related transitions — assisting staff in understanding not only what is changing but also why and what it means for their roles.
• Work closely with Security Engineering to ensure the integration of AI governance and enablement work with the organization’s broader security strategy.
• Partner with compliance stakeholders and Legal/People Operations as necessary to evaluate AI tool risks, data privacy implications, and organizational policy alignment — including the effects on employee relations and workforce obligations.
• Keep abreast of the evolving AI governance and security landscape and proactively suggest policy and control updates as new tools, risks, or regulations arise.
• Maintain the vendor inventory, perform lightweight third-party security assessments on new tools, and escalate higher-risk evaluations to the Security Engineering team.
• Coordinate security awareness programs, including staff training and onboarding modules.
• Design, launch, and perpetually enhance a suite of AI enablement resources: training sessions, onboarding guides, office hours, self-serve resource hubs, and practical playbooks.
• Facilitate workshops and learning sessions for staff across all levels and disciplines, breaking down technical concepts into accessible, jargon-free language.
• Build and nurture an internal AI Champions network — recruiting, supporting, and coordinating peer advocates across departments to promote adoption and share insights.
• Create onboarding materials for new employees and role-specific enablement resources for teams with specialized AI use cases.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• 5–8+ years of experience in a role encompassing IT, compliance, security, learning & development, or organizational change — ideally with exposure to multiple areas.
• Proven experience in drafting, publishing, and managing the lifecycle of acceptable use, technology, or information security policies — including socializing policy with non-technical audiences and driving organization-wide adoption.
• Demonstrated familiarity with AI tools (e.g., large language models, AI-assisted productivity tools) and a solid understanding of emerging best practices in AI governance, data privacy, and acceptable use.
• Knowledge of the intersection between technology policy and employment practices, including acceptable use and the workforce implications of AI tool implementation.
• Experience conducting security audits and gathering compliance evidence.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with proven experience in developing and conveying technology governance frameworks to non-technical audiences.
• Experience in designing and facilitating training, workshops, or enablement programs at an organizational scale.
• Ability to assess and screen vendors/contractors for security and compliance risks.
• Established ability to work cross-functionally, build relationships across disciplines, and advance work without formal authority.
• Familiarity with change management principles and practices — including stakeholder communication, adoption strategies, and managing transitions.
• Comfort operating in ambiguous situations — experience in building initiatives from the ground up.
• Tenacity and adaptability; able to navigate relationships and technical challenges, removing obstacles for themselves and their teams.
• A strong commitment to Code for America's mission of enhancing government services for those who need them most.
• Leadership and colleagues who share a strong work ethic and values, and who respect and care for one another.
• A collaborative, cross-functional, diligent, and enjoyable work environment.
