This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Collaborate closely with SAF’s publications team to enhance submissions to the Journal.
• Identify avenues for increasing impact factor and citation rates.
• Attract and retain skilled authors and reviewers.
• Enhance the Journal’s efficiency regarding submitted manuscripts, including the timeline from submission to decision.
• Monitor and assist new associate editors while assessing their performance.
• Promptly address in-process manuscripts within the peer review management system.
• Assign manuscripts to Associate Editors for oversight, or serve as Associate Editor when necessary.
• Make final editorial decisions on all submissions and manage the front matter.
• Provide reports on potential opportunities for special supplement sales and sponsorship.
• Active membership in the Society of American Foresters.
• Residency in the US, as the Journal of Forestry is focused on North American content.
• A robust record of authorship in peer-reviewed journals or successful science communication publications.
• Experience in roles such as reviewer, editor, publication manager, and/or science communicator.
• Preference for candidates with experience as associate editors or editors for forestry-related journals.
• A graduate degree (preferably a PhD) in forestry or a related field, with a comprehensive understanding of various forestry subfields.
• An established network that includes academia, industry, and federal agencies within forestry and natural resources.
• Proficiency in using cloud-based computing and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Familiarity with manuscript and peer review management platforms, or the ability to quickly adapt to them.
• A strong strategic and collaborative mindset, enabling effective coordination with SAF's leadership.
• Administrative support directly from SAF's publications department to effectively manage the Journal's operations.
