Edge Functions Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.

📋 Description

• Advancing the Supabase Edge Runtime, an open-source host based on Rust that operates the Deno isolate, manages the separation of main and user runtime, and enforces memory and CPU limits on a per-request basis.

• Establishing monitoring, alerting, and OpenTelemetry tracing throughout the runtime, utilizing this visibility to drive enhancements that boost service latency and reliability.

• Collaborating closely with the Deno and other open-source teams, contributing to upstream efforts while conveying our users' needs.

• Engaging in an on-call rotation to ensure the health of Edge Functions in a production environment.

• Assisting in the management and enhancement of features such as scheduled functions, background tasks, WebSocket streaming, ephemeral file storage, and custom routing.

• Integrating functions more seamlessly with the complete Supabase stack, including Auth, Postgres, Storage, and Realtime.

• Broadening function capabilities to accommodate a wider range of use cases, including AI inference, MCP servers, simple website hosting, and URL shorteners.

• Enhancing the developer experience for creating and debugging functions locally using the Supabase CLI, which includes integration with DevTools, logging, and ensuring production parity.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in backend or systems engineering, with a strong command of Rust and TypeScript.

• Familiarity with V8 Isolates, Deno, and general JavaScript runtime environments.

• Experience in managing infrastructure at scale, including Kubernetes, AWS, Cloudflare Workers, Redis, or similar systems.

• A clear vision for how computing and data can be decentralized to the edge.

• Bonus: experience in developing developer-facing CLIs or frontend tools that operate atop an infrastructure product.
