Director of Risk Strategy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Spearhead a technology-driven Enterprise Risk Management strategy across various platforms, partners, markets, and user demographics.

• Manage and update the organizational risk register, ensuring that enterprise risk documentation remains precise and current.

• Establish and execute a Risk Automation Roadmap, integrating automated controls, biometric verification, and digital identity assurance into product and operational processes.

• Deliver predictive, data-driven risk insights to the Executive team, utilizing analytics and automated risk signals.

• Incorporate risk strategy into platform architecture, data pipelines, AI models, and claims or reimbursement processes.

• Advocate for a prevent-by-design methodology, embedding risk prevention mechanisms directly into technological systems.

• Guarantee that automated preventative controls like biometric validation, geolocation rules, eligibility checks, and abnormal claim detection are included in feature design.

• Supervise the creation of an automated detection ecosystem, comprising machine learning fraud models, risk scoring, biometric anomaly detection, and behavioral analytics.

• Direct swift, technology-enabled responses such as automated account lockdowns, geo-blocking, biometric re-verification, and dynamic rule adjustments.

• Manage internal audit procedures with a focus on automated audit testing and digital verification.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master's degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related quantitative discipline.

• Professional certifications like FRM, PRM, or equivalent are highly desirable.

• 10–15 years of progressive experience in risk management, with significant exposure to financial services, fintech, health, or insurance sectors.

• Demonstrated experience in leading Enterprise Risk Management frameworks that align with global standards, such as ISO 31000.

• Strong technical proficiency in risk modeling, data analytics, and machine learning applications for fraud detection and ERM systems.

• Proven track record of embedding automated risk controls within digital platforms and product ecosystems.

• Excellent executive communication skills, capable of providing strategic insights to senior leadership and stakeholders.

• Established leadership experience in managing and developing risk teams.

• Strong analytical skills, regulatory knowledge, and a commitment to ethical standards.
