Director, Medical Affairs – Liver Health

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Deliver coaching, mentorship, and management to field-based Medical Liaisons.

• Create and execute strategies for managing relationships with key opinion leaders, organized providers, academic institutions, integrated delivery networks, and other healthcare providers.

• Facilitate collaboration among field-based Medical Liaisons and other units and personnel within Novo Nordisk.

• Act as a representative for Field Medical Affairs across the US affiliate and globally when needed.

• Assist in the administration and management of the field-based FMA program.

• Ensure adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, company policies, and procedures.

• Establish operating policies and procedures, budgets, schedules, and performance standards.

• Lead and engage in area and national projects, team meetings, training sessions, medical meetings, and symposia.

• Keep abreast of Novo Nordisk products, scientific research, and publications.

• Present at assigned symposia and cultivate relationships with key healthcare providers.

• Participate in Marketing and Sales meetings, offering industry insights.

• Identify potential investigators for clinical trials and future research opportunities.

• Address medical inquiries in accordance with legal, regulatory, and company guidelines.

• Review expense reports, time and activities, budgets, plans, and performance metrics.

• Coordinate requests for financial, product, technical, educational, consulting, and clinical-study support.

• Collaborate with field-based Regional and MM teams to foster thought-leader relationships.

• Assist in creating presentations and educating on product and clinical data for company meetings.

• Recruit and select staff promptly to fill vacancies.

• Set and evaluate annual goals, coach personnel on Individual Development Plans (IDPs), and communicate policies and organizational changes.

• Coordinate training and development strategies with other Field Directors.

• Ensure personnel are aware of strategic and therapeutic priorities and are accountable for results.

• Evaluate field Medical Liaisons and provide documented feedback and guidance.

• Mentor Field Directors, Medical Liaisons, and Regional Medical Scientists (RMSs).

• Prepare Medical Liaisons for field activities by reviewing agendas and presentation materials.

• Enhance the technical, scientific, business, communication, and motivational skills of reporting personnel.

• Spend time in the field with direct reports to coach and develop personnel.

• Conduct assessments of workforce to identify talent gaps and resource needs.

• Ensure that individual development plans, annual goals, interim reviews, learning plans, and aspiration plans are established.


⛳️ Requirements

• 2–3 years of experience in a Medical Liaison or a similar role.

• 6 years of prior management experience, including at least 2 years leading field medical affairs personnel.

• 8 years of progressive experience within the pharmaceutical industry.

• Preferred: at least 3 years of experience in the healthcare system.

• Required: advanced healthcare or science degree such as DO, MD, PharmD, PhD, or DNP.

• Direct experience in a therapeutic area is preferred.

• Proven track record of building relationships with opinion leaders and organized providers.

• Experience in strategy and team management.

• Significant capability in cross-functional collaborative leadership.

• Ability to establish and enhance internal and external customer relationships.

• Proactive approach to identifying, addressing, and resolving team-wide challenges.

• Capacity to work independently and strategically with minimal supervision.

• Commitment to personal development and staying updated with scientific literature and competitors.

• Ability to guide field medical personnel through a rapidly evolving market.

• Strong leadership and strategic-thinking skills.

• 50–75% overnight travel is required.

• Must reside in the US, preferably on the west coast or near a major airport.

• Valid driver's license is required.

• Must comply with Novo Nordisk’s motor-vehicle-record points threshold.
